One of the great opportunities we have today is the ability to establish and build our brand without having to invest a fortune in traditional marketing efforts.  We have the ability to establish our expertise in our respective fields.  And with it, we can develop a system that will enable prospects to find and seek us out, instead of having to search for them.  To do that, you have to establish your authority.  And you can do this using the power of social media.

But, this takes much more than sharing some pictures of puppy dogs, funny sayings or even thought-provoking content.  You must take the time to figure out the same things you always have:

  • Who’s your customer
  • What do they want
  • How do you find them
  • How can you attract them

Only then, should you put together your social media marketing strategy.  That strategy should encompass these key points:

  • What format(s) do I want to use
  • What social media platforms are a good fit for both my target client and the format
  • How much time and effort am I willing to commit to doing this right
  • What tools should I use to make it work seamlessly

Start to Establish Your Authority

This is a process that takes a great deal of time.  You don’t establish your authority in an instant.  There is no “quick fix”.  I would estimate that for most people it will take at least 3 to 6 months for people to start to notice them.  And, unless you spend some significant money on a campaign, it will take much longer to get to significant levels of followers.  Yes, there are exceptions.  But since I am primarily talking to B2B business owners, I must caution them that this will take some time.
